Elected at our Annual Meeting on January 10th.
Hi! My name is Alese McKinney; I am married to Duane McKinney. He has three children, Daniel, Bailey, and Meagan McKinney and I have one son, Irie Stone. Together we almost have a soccer team!
I am currently the Program Director at an outpatient opioid treatment center, a.k.a. a methadone clinic. I am also a Substance Abuse Counselor and have recently finished up the hours for my internship. I am awaiting graduation with my Master’s degree in Psychology so that I can take the test to become licensed. At Epiphany I sometimes help Duane gather the signs after the service and I have recently been involved in a small group. I would like to begin my own small group, perhaps focused on substance abuse, but am open to the needs of the congregation.
I was raised in the Episcopal Church and found Epiphany after we had been in Henderson for about 6 months. I enjoy attending church and believe that it is good for children to be raised in a loving, Christian environment. I also find that when I am not attending church and surrounding myself with spiritual people I feel like something is missing. Epiphany has helped to feel that void.
I love the people of Epiphany. I love the openness and the sense of community I feel here. At this time I am honestly naïve to the challenges that Epiphany faces, other than those related to finances. I am eager to discover the challenges and to work towards solutions to these challenges.
My name is Robert Burton, I attend Epiphany with my wife Leslie and two sons Bobby (6) and Tommy (4). We have also
"converted" my mother in law Carolyn Sabo to our location.
At Epiphany I served as a chair on the "expansion" committee when we were growing into our new space. My wife was the
main chair and I was her co-chair (assistant). Professionally I am a Mechanical Engineer by trade, but have branched into
construction management. I am a Senior Project Manager at Hansen Mechanical Contractors (HVAC and Plumbing Contractor) and was fortunate enough to be the project manager of some pretty neat projects such as the Monorail, the original Wynn Las
Vegas, Trump Tower and Aliante Station.
I am a roman catholic and attended Christ the King Catholic Church on Tropicana. I was an active member and served as a
communion minister, if you have ever attended you will find that communion ministry at CTK is a well choreographed event with
more than a dozen ministers at each worship service. It was always fun to see how each service would unfold with the diverse
eclectic group of individuals that served in that ministry. Enough with the memories...my wife and I decided to search for
churches that better fit our family in the Henderson area. CTK did not have child care at the early services and for some
reason she did not like spending the entire mass in the lobby area with the kids.
Our goal was to find a church that best fit our family, and we began going catholic one weekend Episcopal the next. We had
seen an add for Epiphany and both agreed we needed to check out "the church in a strip mall" first. We went to Epiphany and
it felt very warm and inviting. The next weekend we went to a catholic church, I felt like we were swimming in a sea of
people. We came back to Epiphany a second time and decided this would be our home.
When invited as a nominee to vestry I decided it was time to end my vacation from being active in a church ministry.
Traditionally I have grown up and been a member of a church that has been established for more years than I have been on
the planet. To be a part of something that is in its adolescence and be able to take an active roll is very inspiring. When
action is taken, a local visible result is seen. In an older more established church it is much more difficult to see the
fruits of our labor. I do not see challenges at Epiphany, just mile markers that we will eventually pass over time (some
things may take longer than others).
My name is Lisa Pocius Hess, MD
You will see me at church with 2 year old daughter, Mia Hess. I am married to Thomas Hess, MD.
I am a physician at Hess Medical Center. I practice family medicine, and specialize in cosmetic and laser procedures. I try to be home one or two days a week with Mia.
I grew up in Illinois. I attended a Swedish Covenant church as a child, and then went to a Catholic college. After moving here and being home with a new baby, I began to reexamine my faith. I started looking for a church. I read about different faiths/denominations, and quickly realized I wanted to become an Episcopalian. I love the traditional style and cycle of worship, coupled with a more progressive social outlook. Epiphany attracted me with its website. I found the people here warm and welcoming, without being overbearing. I've been here ever since!
I love that we are a small, but growing, congregation. It is amazing to see what a small group of people have accomplished in just a few years! Of course, like everyone else, our church now faces economic challenges. I think the most important challenge is to keep the intimacy and family-feeling we have now, while growing to serve and strengthen our community.
